The Origins of London Summer Jam (#LSJ)

Summer fun!

#LSJ's origins come from many places.

One of the best things about festivals is the last night, gathered in a tent with random musicians,
having jam fun. Those unique experiences are missing from a lot of modern day festivals due to
noise restrictions and other things. There is no obvious large scale jam where everyone can
meet. There are many folk music and specialist jams but it feels like you have to have played for
years to participate!

In a way, #LSJ will be a return to the old days when musicians used to get together to make and
share music. It’s that coming together just for the sake of making and sharing music that's
missing, at least on a large scale.

So we thought about how to bring all these elements we love to a jam fest. #LSJ has the
acoustic and electric jam areas, as well as workshops, so people can teach each other and
learn. Of course it’s great just to listen to music and perform, so we have the open mics and the
main stage for that grand finale feeling.

#LSJ will be open to all played instruments and singers, so many different genres of music will
be included - indie, blues, rock and free jam time to just let things happen. People can have a
go even if they have never played an instrument before. We might even try a mass jam using
the main stage and a rocking band who can deliver.

There will be lots of spaces for individual jams where people can just hang out, letting the music
and friendship flow. Overall, we want a human event where people can feel free to meet each
other… All part of the jam vibe.

#LSJ is a new idea – the first large-scale music jam festival in Britain. Ultimately, we hope it
brings us all closer together as musicians and music lovers
